The 'Me Time' Tag

Hi everyone,
So this is a tag that was created over on YouTube by two of my favourite YouTubers, Essiebutton and AmeliaLiana. I thought it was a cool tag, and slightly different to the things I normally talk about here, so I thought I'd do it.
*Also, apologies for the funny lighting in some of the photos, its gotten to that point in the year when the light starts changing after 3 o'clock.

What do you watch or read during me time?
As you will know if you've read any of my monthly favourites posts, I watch a lot of television. I'm that person that constantly has a new tv show on the go. At the moment I'm watching new episodes of The 100, The Fall and How To Get Away With Murder. I also rewatch old episodes of Shameless a lot, because they're so good they just never seem to get old.
As far as reading goes, I don't have a lot of time to read my own books because I'm always reading for college, and my brain can't handle more than one book at once. When I do get time, I tend to read a lot of YA and fantasy. The last book I read was Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo, which I really enjoyed. I also read and loved Heir of Fire back in September and it's one I tend to go back to a lot.

What do you wear during me time?
A lot of I just keep what I've been wearing for the day, but because it's winter now and it's freezing I'll add my Uggs and a cardigan or hoodie. Occasionally I'll throw on pyjama bottoms too.
The uniform
What are your me time beauty products?
Normally just moisturiser and Vaseline, because I get dry skin and lips, particularly in winter. I'm not really into face masks, I had a bad experience with one a few years ago, and that scarred me a bit (metaphorically, not literally).

Current favourite nail polish?
I have two; 'Break Through' from Essence and '7' from Kiko.

What do you eat/drink during me time?
Usually chocolate. I am paricularly partial to these Cadburys Oreo Bars.
And to drink; tea!

Current favourite candle?
This blueberry one from Ikea

Do you ever have outdoor me time?
Not really to be honest. Occasionally I'll go for walks, but my 'me time' tends to be in the evenings when I come home after being out for the day.

Would you ever see a movie alone?
In theory yes, although not a lot of people seem to do it here compared to elsewhere. In practice, I'm far too broke to go to the cinema very often, so when I do I want to go with friends.

Favourite online shop?
I actually don't buy clothes or makeup online at all. I just prefer going to the shops. The only things I buy online are books and DVDs, and for that I use Amazon or Play.com

Anything else to add? What else do you do during me time?
Not a whole lot. Other than reading and watching things, I write a bit and I do this blog. That's about it! ;)

October Favourites

Hi everyone,
I started off thinking that I didn't have a lot of makeup favourites from the month of October, but it turns out that I actually do, so I'm going to get right to it.

Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation

There'll be a full review of this coming on later this week where I'll talk about it in more detail, so for now I'll just say that I really like it (obviously Ciara, it's in your favourites post). Rimmel foundations are really good.

Maybelline Colour Tattoo in 'On and On Bronze'

This eyeshadow is a longtime favourite of mine; I think that it might have been in last years October Favourites too. October was a really busy month for me, there were a lot of days when I was literally running out the door and this eyeshadow was perfect for when I had to do my makeup in a hurry. It's a really nice neutral colour and really easy to apply (two swipes and you're done) and I wore it for almost the whole month.

Natural Collection Blush in 'Sugar Plum Fairy'

I've spoken about my love for the Natural Collection's blushers and bronzers before; I just think they're so wonderful, especially for the price, and Sugar Plum Fairy is my latest discovery. As the name would suggest, it's much darker than some of the other colours, and is just the perfect colour for autumn (or winter, as I suppose it is now) in my opinion.

Elizabeth Eyeliner in 'Espresso'

What is it about autumn/winter that makes me want to reach for the eyeliner? I've talked about the Elizabeth Arden black eyeliner before and even reviewed it. During the month I picked this one up, (I think by accident when I was looking for the other one) and can happily report that it's just as good; really pigmented, really good quality, very easy to apply (which is great for me because pencil eyeliner is still not my forte).

Sephora Lip Last Colour in 'Wanted Red'

I hate to be that person that's constantly plugging their reviews but I did also do one of this a few weeks ago. And I'll admit, although I liked the lipstick overall, I had some criticisms. After I wrote my review however, I tried it with a brown lipliner underneath (it was the only one I had). Not only did it hold the lipstick in place and make it much easier to apply, it also makes it a much darker red, and it quickly became one of my most worn lip combinations of the month. The other two being...

L'Oréal Colour Riche Pure Red Lipsticks in 'Julianne's Red' and 'Eva's Red'

I really like these two lipsticks. They're both amazing colours (Julianne's is a very bright pink red, Eva's is more brown) and are very pigmented and comfortable to wear. I also have Liya's Red from the collection but I haven't worn that one very much yet, but don't be surprised if you see it in an upcoming favourites post.

Penneys Jumpers
I showed these two in a haul a few months ago, so if you want to see pictures of me wearing them, head over there. I've dubbed them my super cosy jumpers because they're just so comfortable. Like I said October was a very busy month for me and there were a lot of days that I was tired and just wanted to be comfortable and casual and these were great for that. I don't know if you can get these exact jumpers in Penneys/Primark anymore (probably not, I got them in a sale) but they do definitely still have similar things.

How to Get Away With Murder

I actually thought that for once I didn't have a television favourite for this month and then I remembered this. For those of you who don't know, How to Get Away With Murder is a series that's just come out made by the people that make Scandal (a show that I have never seen). It's about a lawyer called Annalise Keating (played by the amazing Viola Davis) and a group of her law students. It's quite difficult to say much else without spoiling it, so just go and watch it for yourselves okay? :) There's a procedural/courtroom element to it, there's mystery, all the characters are really interesting; in a nutshell it touches a lot of bases and I'd highly recommend it. My only regret is that I started watching it now and not when the season had ended, because having to wait on new episodes every week is killing me.

Golden Angel| Halloween Countdown #4

For this look you will need:

  • Base makeup
  • Bronzer
  •  Highlighter
  • Gold eyeliner
  • Three shades of gold eyeshadow
  • Mascara
  • Nude/pink lipgloss
  • Hair bobbins
  • Hairpins and bobby pins
Hair

  • Using the tops of your ears as a guide, divide your hair into two sections, like so...

  • Tie to bottom section in a ponytail to keep it out of the way for the moment
  • Pull all the hair it the top section over to one side

  • Take a small section from one side, just above one ear

  • Divide it into three and start plaiting, adding in pieces of hair from each side as you go

  • Continue across the top of your head until you run out of hair

  • Take the bottom section out of its ponytail and using it, continue the plait around the bottom of your head. You might have to switch hands a couple of times.

  • When you've run out of hair to add in, continue plaiting to the end of the hair, like so...

  • Bring the end of the plait around, and pin it behind/underneath the top part of the plait. This is the finished look, from a variety of angles :)
Makeup
  • Apply your base makeup

  • Apply some bronzer to your cheekbones

  • On top of that, apply your highlighter

  • Also apply some highlighter to your temples, down your nose, your cupids bows, basically just create a really glowy look

  • Using the gold eyeliner, line your upper eyelid and continue the line out horizontally
  • From the end of this line, draw a semi-circle shape back to the inner corner of your eye

  • Divide the semi-circle into sections, gradually getting smaller from the inside out. If you need to, you can round them out a bit, to create more of a wing-like effect

  • Use the lightest shade of gold eyeshadow to fill in your shape

  • Apply the darkest shade of eyeshadow on the outer part of your wing design, then use the middle shade to blend the light and dark together. I also went over my outline with a darker eyeliner as it wasn't showing up as clearly as I wanted it to

  • Apply your mascara...

  • And here is the finished eye look...

  • Finally, apply your lipgloss...

  • And that's it!
